Tea Tips: The Chinese believe pu'er lowers blood pressure, as fermentation produces statins (blood pressure-lowering compounds).
Ingredients: Green mandarin is from Xinhui, Guangdong, China. Ripe Pu-erh is from Yunnan, China
How to Steep: Western: Unwrap one ball in steeping vessel. Bring 8 oz water at 208°F. Rinse the ball by pouring water over it and waiting for about 10 sec before dumping water. Steep for 2-3 Minutes. Repeat until flavor fades. Eastern: Use one ball per 6 oz of water. Rinse the leaves once with boiling water for 10 seconds and discard. Steep for 30 sec for the 1st-4th steep. Then add 30sec for each additional steep. Continue until the flavor fades.
Fun Fact: Some green mandarin pu-er pieces might have a white substance on it known as "orange crystal oil," formed from the precipitation of volatile oil in the orange peel. This oil is crucial to the food and nutritional value of Xinhui mandarin.
